Big Tow was originally a duo: Jay Von Runnen and Scott Lewis, who have jammed together since their college days playing a blend of blues, rock, and alternative with tight harmonies.

Now Dave Cogan is on drums, George Lane plays keyboards, Devin Divecha plays sax and mandolin, and Steven Reiter is on the bass.  Jay, Scott and Dave have known each other from their early development years in music and have played together in various combinations in the metropolitan DC area. George hails from the Philly funk music scene,  while multi-talented Devin and rock-solid bassman Steven round out a great sound.

Live Music Friday April 7th!!! Down Wilson 8:30-12:30

Join us for a fun evening with Down Wilson.

Are you ready to have an awesome time and rock out to your favorite music? You came to the right place…Down Wilson is coming to a venue near you!

The name “Down Wilson” is a tribute to the band’s home, Arlington, Virginia, as founder and singer/guitarist Kevin Sambat found himself driving up and down Wilson Boulevard for his weekly acoustic duo and trio shows. Along the way, he’s had the great pleasure of playing with many talented people, fortunately gathering the steady rhythm and bass section of drummer Brian Highsmith and bassist Karlin McNeill for the long haul. With the addition of talented vocalist/keys player Michelle Jentzer Melsop (formerly of Divide By Zero) and ridiculous guitarist/back vocalist Marco Hernandez, Down Wilson is ready to rock every bar/event/party with fun music and a great stage show!

With both Michelle and Kevin on lead vocals, Down Wilson’s repertoire is incredibly fun and diverse, ranging from classic to modern rock, 80’s, 90’s, pop, hip-hop and top-40 hits, with even a few surprises mixed in. DW will keep you on the dance floor, singing until your voice goes out, dancing until you’re dead tired, and having a blast

Live Music!!!Andi Ray Healy & Jeff Litman July 1st 8:30-12;30

We are excited to welcome Andy & Jeff to the Tavern.!! From New York

http://www.andirae.com/

Brooklyn-based Singer/Songwriter Andi Rae Healy has been a mainstay on New York City’s indie-country scene for nearly a decade.  Her debut album, I Guess I am a Sinner--featuring contributions from artists as diverse as pop princess, Cyndi Lauper and indie darling, Jill Sobule--was released in 2006 and earned rave reviews for its deep melodicism, lush production, and its brutally honest and painfully heartfelt lyrics.

In the ensuing years, Andi Rae has performed across the country, been a finalist at World Cafe Live's Philly Rising Showcase, played shows for the Honky Tonk Angels and Brooklyn Country, as well as hosting and organizing annual Earth Day shows and fundraisers to support the environmental causes that she cares so deeply about.

In 2012, Andi Rae launched a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over $12,000 to record her long-anticipated follow up: a hard-driving, boot-stomping effort (featuring live-in-the-studio performances by her crack band, the Back River Bullies) with hints of 90s rock and classic country entitled If You Want to Be My Man, which after three years of painstaking work, was released on September 18, 2015.

http://www.jefflitmanmusic.com/

Ten years on the NYC music scene may be behind the new swagger and sexy menace that opens Litman’s devastating Primetime, a six-song passion play whose shrewd title accrues ironies with each front-row observation of the city’s dream-making industries—how they engulf and distort, turn people into product, lovers into enemies, life into a non-stop command performance.  A young Elvis Costello might have penned the stylish, sex-as-combat opener “That’s On You” (“If tears are your weapons, bring the rain”).  A survivor Kurt Cobain might have launched  the performer’s inquisition “Debutante,” whose laser-guided disses end up implicating the singer (“Ten o’clock it’s time to hit the stage/Now you remember how your bills get paid”).  Whether due to time or urban angst, Litman’s perceptions and wit have sharpened to the point that the acerbic, sometimes brutal lyricism on Primetime matches the expected deadly musicianship and sure sense of pop songcraft--all of which are bathed in a noisier electronic ambience (think Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) and immersive sound design that frames a hardboiled noirish observer whose heart, by the final tracks, beats all too painfully for what’s lost and still worth saving.

Litman was born in Minneapolis, playing piano by age six and guitar by ten. Having been reared on grunge and metal, he eventually became hooked on the melody-driven classic rock of the Beatles and Beach Boys as well as the gritty melodic rock of Minneapolis mainstays The Replacements, Soul Asylum, and the Jayhawks.  After being tuned into the music of Miles Davis by a guitar teacher, he dropped into the deep end of jazz, eventually earning a degree from Indiana University’s prestigious jazz program.  After college, he followed his growing love of classical music to New York City, where he enrolled at the Manhattan School of Music, earning his master’s degree in classical guitar.

Somewhere on the homestretch to an actual doctorate in classical guitar (yes, they have them), Litman turned to face the awful truth: his true talent wasn't for gnarly Spanish concertos but post-punk American three-minute pop songs.  Upon the release of his 2009 debut Postscript, critics clearly agreed, comparing its jolts of gritty, melodic Americana to the likes of Matthew Sweet, Michael Penn, and Rhett Miller. As the multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter worked on his follow up, 2012’s Outside, he carved a place in New York City’s music scene. Litman recorded Outside throughout 2011 in Minneapolis and New York, co-producing it with his old friend, Andy Thompson (Dan Wilson, Jeremy Messersmith), and recording with two early heroes: drummer, Michael Bland (Prince, Soul Asylum) and Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. (Jellyfish, Beck).  While its predecessor spilled out of grief from a brutal break-up, Outside lives in the wiser, uncertain present—grappling with the daily struggles of modern life as an independent artist in a rapidly changing personal and musical landscape.

Litman currently lives and works in New York City as a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE MUSIC!!! FEBRUARY 26TH! RIGHT HANDED LEFTIES!!!

Always excited to have RHL in the house!!!

The Right Handed Lefties are named for a unique trait, being left-handed. Original members David Thong and Laura Farrell are both left handed but play the guitar like a righty. What’s up with that? With only 10-15% of the population possessing this trait, it is part of what sets RHL apart. In fact they have become known for their creative mash ups and unexpected reggae inspired beats. The Right Handed Lefties cover many genres of music focusing mostly on the 80’s, 90’s, and today. With killer vocals, outstanding harmonies and a beat to keep you going all night, the Right Handed Lefties never disappoint.

MEET THE BAND:

Laura Farrell aka. ‘Lefty’ (vocals, guitar, violin) is classically trained on the violin, which makes an appearance from time to time. She used to play with Frederick based folk group, the Yardslippers and later DC area group Big Honey’. She also spends time as the front person for DC/VA based cover band Rave Parade. She is currently working on her first solo album.

David Thong (guitar, vocals, synth) is a prominent multi-instrumental musician originally from New York and currently resides in Northern Virginia. He’s considered one of the hardest working in the area with a love for anything from Michael Jackson, Beatles to  all 90’s Rock (especially Weezer and 311) . He is former member of Temporary Basement  and cover band Party Like It’s.. and has shared the stage with Weezer, Ash, and Ozma. He’s played venues such as CBGB, Jammin’ Java, The National in Richmond, VA, and the Bullpen at Nat’s Park.

Alan Day (drums, beatbox) is the beat master, changing up songs midway keeping everyone on their toes. Music has been part of his life ever since he was a child watching his father play in a local funk band. His influences range from Michael Jackson to 311 and of course hip hop from coast to coast.
